Maiden hair fern - Pteridaceae - aleuticum = Aleutian Islands of Alaska - Western/Eastern North America - clump forming - short rhizomes - compound pedate leaf - filmy thin leaf tissue - delicate - tip of the leaf rolled over to protect where spore capsules are born - black stems - fertile moist well drained - rocky mossy cliff next to a waterfall - very good garden plants - irrigate in summer - gets a little brown at tips in full sun - north facing slope - herbaceous
